VIAREGGIO: TOWN OF CARNIVAL
Viareggio is the most popular beach resort of Versilia, a fascinating town rich in entertainments.
Famous throughout the world for its Carnival in February that animates the promenade with parades of papier-mâché floats. These are huge facilities with movement effects that usually represent ironically characters of politics or entertainment of the international scene. The parade of floats is accompanied by music, dancing and fireworks: a highly anticipated event from the people of Viareggio who carry on this tradition since 1873.
The long sandy beach of Viareggio is perfect for sunbathing and relaxing. There are several bathing establishments equipped with umbrellas, bar, swimming pool and also stretches of free beach.
Not far from the coast is the pine forest, a great quiet and peaceful green area where you can spend the hottest hours of the day playing mini-golf or riding a bike along the trails.
